The Rescue Rods Story
by Jimmy the Fox

In 2009 my late wife Mimi was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and subsequently spent 17 days in the hospital recovering from a collapsed lung due to a lung biopsy. At the same time our old (14 1/2 years old) dog Cody began to really age quickly. The week after Mimi got out of the hospital and began chemo/radiation therapies we had to put Cody down, not a good time with all that was going on. Eight months later Mimi had no cancer and we decided it was time for another furry kid. We rescued Murphy whom I still have, he's 8 now.

I began my craft by restoring (rescuing) old classic fishing rods. While Mimi was going through her ordeal I was looking for a name by which I could market my craft. We came up with a few ideas but nothing really popped. While spending a First Friday night in Gulfport Florida my friend and nature/kayak guide, Kurt Zuelsdorf, said Jimmy didn't you just "rescue" a dog, why don't you call your rods Rescue Rods, and the name has stuck.

"JimmytheFox Rescue Rods" gives back to the community.Throughout the year, there will be a Rescue Rod at a charity event somewhere. JimmytheFox Rescue Rods supports Gulfport Get Rescued, (I now have 2 rescued dogs and 2 rescued cats), Relay for Life, the Volunteer Way, Quantum Leap Farms Equestrian Therapy, and more.
